Heirloom Datil peppers are easily recognized by their distinct color transformation—from vibrant green through yellow to a rich orange. That’s why they’ve earned the nickname “Yellow Lantern Chili.”
Green Datil Peppers – Green, earthier datil flavor with a heat level of: ~275,000 Scoville units.
Ripe Orange Datil Peppers – Sweeter, fruitier datil flavor and hotter: ~325,000 Scoville units.
Growing true heirloom Datils takes patience and precision:
It takes over 3 months to grow a seedling into a mature plant.
From first flower to green pepper maturity takes another 50+ days.
To reach full ripeness (orange), it takes an additional 20+ days on the vine.
This long growing cycle to “Ripe Orange” means fewer overall peppers per season, which contributes to their higher cost—
Fresh Mayhem Datil Peppers are available in three options:
Green – Mature
