Datil Pepper Growing Tips

• Welcome to our Datil Growers Series! We created this series because we absolutely LOVE the Datil Pepper—its history, its flavor, its character, and the generations of Florida growers who have kept this incredible heirloom alive. As a family farm with roots dating back to 1883, we feel a responsibility to help ensure the Datil Pepper continues to thrive for generations to come.

• Our mission is simple: Save The Datil & Bring It to the World. One of the best ways we can do that is by helping more people grow Datils. Whether you are planting your very first Datil Pepper or have been growing them for years, we want to share what we’ve learned from our own experience and help you Grow Datil Done Right.

• Each week, we’ll share a new Datil Growing Tip covering everything from planting and soil to watering, feeding, pruning, pests, harvesting, and much much more. We’ll share what works for us, what we’ve learned along the way, and hopefully help you avoid some of the mistakes we’ve made ourselves.

• New Datil Growing Tips will be posted every Thursday on Facebook and Instagram, with each tip added to our website shortly afterward so you can easily come back and find it when you need it.

• Follow Along, ask questions, share your experiences, and grow with us. The more people who grow, enjoy, and share the Datil Pepper, the stronger its future becomes.

• Experience- We strive for everyone to cultivate the finest heirloom Datil Peppers imaginable, whether a large commercial grower or backyard gardener. We happily leverage our growing experience, since 2012, in assisting anyone wanting to grow this ornery and fiery pepper. We succeed when the entire world experiences the wondrously unique Datil Pepper for themselves!

• Awareness- We love to talk Datil to anyone! We promote the datil pepper to a diverse range of individuals, including both those who are already acquainted with its fiery allure and those who are yet to discover its distinctive flavor.

• Respect- We approach every interaction with respect, fostering a sense of datil camaraderie among all those we encounter. Our aim is to instill pride in the rich traditions of Florida agriculture and cuisine, connecting people with the vibrant heritage deeply rooted in our region.

• Dedication + Hard Work + A Bunch of Laughter = Team Mayhem- Every day, we answer countless emails and social media questions about Datil Peppers, create all of our social media promotions, and somehow find time to pack and ship all of your datilicious purchases in between! Thank goodness for our friendship—because this is a labor of love that takes dedication, hard work, and plenty of long days. But through it all, the laughter never stops. • Visit the Farm- We invite you to our 100-acre farm during harvest (July-Nov) and learn more about this amazing pepper.
